Summer Camp Rules!
It is one of my favorite memories as a kid. That week in summer when I would head to Big Sandy Lake in McGregor, Minnesota for church camp.
As a Colonial Church of Edina youth, we were all encouraged to attend Camp Pyro for a week of song, games, faith, and friendship. I loved the morning singing at breakfast, the outdoor games, archery, and the lake. I even learned to shoot a .22 caliber rifle there. It was at night though, when all you could see was the light from the bonfire and stars, and all you hear was the soft voices singing along with the acoustic guitar, is when I felt joy. And I knew I wasn’t alone.
Macallen and Morgan have also had the opportunity to attend camp the last few years. From Camp Crush to Hope Shores, from Rock Slide to Trout Lake, they have come to love their time at summer camp too. With scratchy voices, stinky clothes and bug bites, they come home full of smiles, sharing stories of songs, fellowship and faith, and even talk of being camp leaders someday. And yes, they got to learn archery and shoot rifles too!
It is tradition to have a “care package” arrive mid-week. And it is without question, the Wednesday delivery must arrive in a lunch bag! I won’t say what was in there, but it was full of love from Becky and me.
Below are the bags from the last couple of years at Trout Lake Camp (2020, 2021)
