A Chapter Ends.

Closing the books on Countryside Elementary and South View Middle School

The end of the school year brings two bags of emotion. One bag is labeled “joy and relief” that school is over. The other is labeled “anticipation” of the summer activities ahead.  The close of the 2021-2022 school year brought a third bag labeled “complete” June 2, 2022 was the last day of middle school for Macallen and the final day of elementary school for Morgan.

This year, I decided to draw a countdown of sorts - arbitrarily starting with 8 days to go.

We tried to make the day special and headed out to Maynard’s for dinner. I think you can see “relief” “joy” and “anticipation” on the candid photos on Maynard’s newly landscaped patio.

That night, when we were reflecting as parents about the end of the elementary school era in our life, Becky shared a photo she captured from her home office on our second floor.

I will miss walking Morgan to and from school daily, it was a special time for us to connect. While walking to school on that final day, I said to Morgan “you know I will miss this time next year” Morgan without pause, looked up at me and replied “why? Aren’t you going to walk me to the bus stop next year?”

I smiled, replying “Yes, of course I will” thinking one chapter ends, leading to another. Have a great summer 2022!
